Planning a wedding can be very complex. Keep things organized by using this step by step guide to help keep you on track.

SIX OR MORE MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING

  • Announce your engagement to friends and family.
  • Decide on a wedding date.
  • Think about the type of wedding you want - formal or informal, big or small, and the time of the year you want it to take place.
  • Set a budget.
  • Hire a wedding consultant.
  • Compile a guest list and organize addresses.
  • Choose a Venue.
  • Choose a reception venue.

FOUR TO SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING

  • Order your invitations and announcements. Your invitations should be mailed out 4 weeks before the wedding.
  • Reserve rental equipment, such as tables, chairs and tents.
  • Purchase wedding rings.
  • Book a room for the wedding night.
  • Arrange for the wedding day transportation.
  • Choose wedding favors.
  • Select groom's attire, shoes, and accessories.
  • Register for gifts.
  • select attendant's attire, shoes and accessories.
  • Plan bridal shower (traditionally held by bridesmaids).
  • Choose a wedding color scheme and color scheme and color scheme for flowers.

TWO TO FOUR MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING

  • Mail your wedding invitations.
  • Purchase gifts for parents, attendants and each others.
  • Try out makeup and hairstyles.
  • Make appointment for your bridal portrait.
  • Discuss details of menu with the caterer.
  • Track RSVPs and write thank-you notes as gifts arrives.
  • Renew or get passports, visas, if necessary.
  • Shop for honeymoon clothes.
  • Choose gifts for wedding party.
  • Discuss the service with the officiant.

ONE TO TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING

  • Have programs printed.
  • Reserve accommodations for out of town guests.
  • Obtain marriage license and request certified copies.
  • Obtain necessary documents if you intend to change your name (driver's license, bank accounts, insurance and help policies.
  • Send change of address to post office.
  • Buy a guest book.
  • Contact local newspaper about publishing wedding announcement.
  • Order and plan in-room welcome baskets for out of town guests.
  • Schedule beauty appointments (hair, nails, spa, makeup)

ONE MONTH BEFORE THE WEDDING

  • Call guests that have not responded.
  • Confirm and finalize details with all vendors.
  • Notify caterer of final guest counts.
  • Finalize reception seating plan and write place cards.
  • Assign specific responsibilities to members of your wedding party (handing out corsages and boutonnieres, making sure all items such as toasting glasses, cake knife, guest sighing book are brought to the wedding/reception site.
  • Organize everything needed for wedding day: dress, accessories, makeup, marriage license, rings, etc.
  • Confirm honeymoon arrangements, purchase traveler's checks and give itinerary to a friend or family member in case of emergency.
  • Pack for honeymoon.
  • Write and practice toasts for rehearsal dinner and reception.
  • Have manicure, pedicure, facial and massage.
  • Host and pre-wedding ceremonies - garba, sangeet, mehendi, rehearsal dinner.
